Rome Free Academy Ice Hockey Team

Welcome to the new RFA Hockey website and the Alumni section. Whether you are a recent graduate, a member of the original 1940-41 team, a parent of a past player, or just one on the many RFA fans, we're happy you've visited this section.

Currently we're developing a database of RFA Hockey Alumni for multiple reasons, but mostly to bring Alumni back in the RFA Hockey "loop". This project is a large research project to say the least. As the database grows, we'll share information and bring the Alumni group up to date w/ the current team, players, coaches, as well as team events like the Alumni game and banquet. We'll also include other topics like alumni games and other hockey related items of interest in Rome.

If you're an alumni player, family member, or a friend of the program, please pass this website along to others. Alumni players please CLICK HERE to submit your contact information, which will only be used for RFA Hockey Alumni purposes. We look forward to hearing from all of you.

Thanks,
Ross Bartell, '80

The RFA Hockey program is one of the most successful programs in the history of New York State High School Hockey, and every Alumni player and fan is an integral part of that history and success. A quick glance:

  • An overall record of 714 - 441 - 48 through the 2007-08 season.

  • A record (13) Section 3 Titles (Sectional Championships started in 1970-71)

  • State Champions in 1986, 88

  • NYSPHSAA Record Consecutive Wins @ 49 (1987-89)

  • Undefeated teams in 1970-71 and 1987-88

  • The program has produced hundreds of players that have played competitive hockey after high school at prep, junior, college ranks, as well as a few at the pro levels.

  • Just as important, the program has put out hundreds of individuals that have become successful business leaders and community members.
